The past is catching up with the new and will team up in 2010 and return the glory of Shifter Kart racing to the great Pacific Northwest. The "I-5 Corridor Series" has been launched for the upcoming 2010 competition year. Pacific Grand Prix Raceway (PGP), the region's newest premier karting facility and Pat's Acres Racing Complex (PARC), the most historic and storied facility in the region, are teaming up to offer the local karter's a return to a form of nostalgic competition long missed but never forgotten. The new series will offer drivers a much focused class structure that maximizes track time while minimizing travel and expenses. With the long history the series principles have of premiere event promotions, events will be run with the utmost efficiency and structure as well.
The series will focus exclusively on the Stock Honda Shifter Kart classes, TaG classes and the ever popular Rotax program. In keeping classes to a minimum, drivers are guaranteed all the track time they can handle. Eight races will be offered in a total of four weekends. Two race weekends will be staged in Kent, WA at PGP with the other two taking place in Canby, OR at PARC.
PGP owner Paul Zalud and PARC owner Chris Egger will combine their race management skills and their respective staffs to put together a very sharp and professionally run program. Both Zalud and Egger were involved in the early days of SKUSA, the nation's premier Shifter Kart program, and have put on hundreds of events ranging from the nations top National Series; The STARS OF KARTING, to some of the best run regional events in the country.
"I have been looking forward to returning my focus to the Northwest for a long time now," states Paul Zalud of Pacific Grand Prix. "PGP is the result of many years of very hard work and I am excited, proud and of course looking forward to sharing the facility with our regional racers along with all the new competitors that will be getting into the fabulous sport of karting." Zalud continues; "Both Chris and myself have had a long history promoting events and with the quality staff we each have, this region now has an additional sereies with a lot to offer."
The series will run a double race weekend format with qualifying, pre-finals and finals taking place on Saturday and the entire event repeated again the next day, Sunday. By using this format, racers from throughout the entire Northwest will get 8 racing events while only having to travel out of town for two weekends.
"In these economic times, it is very important to be able to offer a complete championship series that is affordable to the majority of our customers," stated Egger. "This series will do just that. It is designed to be run in addition to what is currently offered, not to replace it."
